Alae is from Morocco. He came to Germany to study, met Anett and moved to a small village called Bussin in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, in northeast Germany. In this place with just 60 inhabitants, where everyone knows everyone, Alae is the only foreigner and Muslim. After a difficult period of loneliness and alienation, Alae found a way to deal with the situation. He prayed every day and concentrated on his studies. His wife helped and supported him. She gave him his prayer rug as a gift. These staged portraits tell of hopes, changes and alienation. Household items act as a metaphor to the story: Everyone comes from a distant land, appears displaced and carries a piece of exoticism inside.
