Many residents take the same paths through the city, in this case Hamburg, day after day. The fact that Islam, far from being anything like the explosion it is depicted as in the media, is present almost everywhere, only becomes apparent to those who stop and pay attention while strolling these well-worn, familiar paths. The degree of visibility and the (also architectural) diversity of forms of Muslim houses of prayer unfolds in Hamburg between two highly-visible, present Mosques, and innumerable small, hidden, almost invisible ones. From the point of view of direct perception, the images focus on buildings, materials and objects – objects that are clearly inanimate, but which are imbued with affect, life and meaning by the people who use them.
